What exactly is this H4 EAD? Is this only for working in IT companies? Is it valid for a lifetime? Yes, these keep coming up in the minds of many dependent spouses who are currently in the US. First, what is this H4 EAD and What is this H4? H4 people or H4 visa holders are the Dependent Spouses of H-1B immigrant workers who come into the US to work for a certain period/contract basis for any kind of job. Initially these H4 visa holders were not permitted to work unless someone sponsors him/her for a H-1B Visa which is the official visa given to a non-immigrant person who wants to work in the US. But things changed in the year 2015. The law states that any spouse with a valid degree is eligible for EAD once the spouse has a H-1B visa with live. Apply for EAD if you want to work in the US when you are on dependent visa.

There are 2 important things to be kept in mind before applying for EAD.

1) Spouse must be on valid H-1B visa and must maintain active status and in case of expiry or any issues and till it gets active he/she cannot apply for H4-EAD. Also, H-1B spouse must be a beneficiary of the approved I-140 which is a petition for immigrant workers.

2) H-1B spouse must have extended H-1B status beyond the initial 6 years under ac-21 rule in one year increments.

EAD refers employment authorization document which is a work permit given to spouses of dependent spouse of H-1B visa holders. These spouses are can also work if they are professionally qualified. Thus, you can see so many H4-EAD jobs being offered to you below based on the location of the candidate. Getting the right job and placement is the key for all H4 EAD candidates.
