JOB DESCRIPTION
Service Category Number/Title: (6) Database Management Services
Required Skill Levels: Level 2: Individuals with more than five (5) years but less than ten (10) years experience within the specific Support Service Category. Level 3: Individuals with more than ten (10) years experience within the specific Support Service Category.
Required Skills: A fully certified PeopleSoft Systems Administrator with the following expertise: 1. Oracle 10g experience 2. Extensive experience as a PeopleSoft System Admin 3. Extensive UNIX experience 4. Extensive Windows experience 5. Extensive PeopleTools experience including Application Designer, Application Engine, Application Package, PeopleCode, Data Mover, Debugger, Tree Manager, Component Interface, eXcelToCI, Tree Manager, Process Scheduler, XML Publisher, Query and Change Assistant 6. Solid understanding of PeopleSoft Security 7. Excellent problem solving skills 8. Excellent analysis skills 9. Extensive upgrade/patches and fixes application 10. Extensive experience with Change Assistant 11. B.S. in computer science, MIS or equivalent experience 12. Minimum of 5+ years of Information Technology experience in the Public Sector arena 13. Adherence to schedule and deadlines is a must.
Background: The NEWSS project requires unique PeopleSoft(c) design development for the creation of the enterprise database for Core Financials. Knowledge transfer will be included for continued support.
Scope of Service; The PeopleSoft Administrator (PS Admin) is a key role for the implementation and ongoing support of every PeopleSoft environment.
The PS Admin installs, configures, monitors and maintains the software and hardware required to implement PeopleSoft. This includes, but is not limited to, the PeopleSoft application and PeopleTools, application servers, web servers and process schedulers.
The PS Admin works very closely with the project team and the PS DBA to assist in problem resolution, patch application and migration assistance.
Other duties include: 1. Monitors PeopleSoft servers to ensure they are working at optimal levels 2. Monitors daily system logs and resolves error messages 3. Maintains file servers and applies patches 4. Performs daily backups of O/S and file systems 5. Upgrades and maintains O/S at latest level by applying O/S patches as needed 6. Monitors and analyzes system performance using performance tools 7. Monitors space on PeopleSoft servers 8. Applies server patches as needed 9. Supports PeopleSoft migration efforts 10. Requests firewall ports and debugs firewall issues 11. Installs and maintains system software 12. Installs PeopleSoft Application and PeopleTools Software 13. Installs configures, and maintains Tuxedo, WebLogic, Microfocus COBOL, SQR and Crystal Reports 14. Creates & maintains UNIX Application servers and process schedulers 15. Creates & maintains NT Application servers and process schedulers 16. Creates & maintains NT web servers 17. Configures and maintains PeopleSoft Integration Broker services, Environment Management Hub, Environment Management Agents and PeopleSoft Change Assistant 18. Monitors My Oracle Support for bug fixes, maintenance packs, new releases 19. Applies bug fixes, maintenance packs, new releases, as needed 20. Works closely wit DBA and UNIX/NT administrators to resolve technical issues
Objectives: Client recently kicked off the NEWSS Project, a PeopleSoft Financials and HRMS implementation. The project will be rolled out in three separate releases consisting of core financials, core human resources and payroll and extended financials. PeopleSoft implementations are very complex and require a unique one time skill set tat works with the database administrator to support the efforts of the technical and functional project team over the complete life of the project.
Task or Activity: 1. Works closely with PeopleSoft DBA and UNIX/IT administrators to resolve technical issues. 2. Handles performance tuning to ensure database is performing at optimal levels. 3. Resolves performance bottlenecks at the application & database level. 4. Monitors daily system logs and resolves error messages. 5. Performs scheduled database backups. 6. Administers and maintains existing database instances. 7. Creates new databases as needed. 8. Creates and maintains database links. 9. Interacts with other DIT support staff as needed. 10. Provides knowledge transfer. 11. Documents best practices related to database installation, maintenance and configuration. 12. Single point of contact for PeopleSoft database related issues. 13. Assists project team in resolving technical issues. 14. Configures and maintains Oracle Enterprise software on servers. 15. Develops and maintains database restore scripts. 16. Restores databases as needed. 17. Develops backup restoration strategies and procedures. 18. Develops and maintains Oracle security. 19. Implements on-demand SQL requests. 20. Assists with PeopleSoft patch application. 21. Assists users and technical team with performance tuning. 22. Provide ongoing technical support of User Productivity Kit (UPK) Developer database tool. 23. Apply UPK patches/fixes where applicable. 24. Perform scheduled UPK backups throughout training delivery phase and on-demand training material revisions.
Deliverables: 1. Document the various development and production environments and how they will be utilized. 2. Document installation and configuration settings. Document database creation procedures. 3. Document Oracle patch application process. Document manual object and data change procedures. 4. Document database link procedures. Document PeopleSoft specific naming conventions, 5. Develop and document change control procedures to promote updates across the various development and production environments 6. Develop documentation including, but not limited to, best practices, user documentation, policies and procedures, for database installation, configuration and maintenance. 7. Develop and implement a plan to provide product expertise and knowledge transfer to targeted County resources. 8. In concert with the PS DBA, develop and document a technical architecture plan and diagram. 9. Document all PeopleSoft System Administration related incidents and their resolutions into a central knowledge repository.
